Don't Look Now, by Daphne Du Maurier
New York Review Books出版。ISBN 9781590172889。

Far From the Madding Crowd, by Thomas Hardy
Not my favorite type of story. The first half is slow, but the second one is ok. That storm coming night is a good one.

Hostage to the Devil, by Malachi Martin
A very different but interesting reading.
If everything in the book is true, then the existing of evil spirits could be true.
However, the author had the implication that if one does not follow church's doctrine, then one can be possessed.
God could exist, but the God in church's interpretation is not the only god. Everyone's superego could be one.
Case 2, the possession of the two priests does not sound like real possession to me.
My thought:
- Satan is the dark and bloody side of nature/instinct. (Jia pointed out that nature has two sides, dark/bloody and positive side.)
- God: positive side of conscious and will.
I think Satan is part of human. One sees the Satan, recognizes its existence, does not try to suppress it (which would make it stronger), but at all time, the God side of self is the master.
(Jia told me that Sigmund Freud proposed a model of id, ego and super-ego. From his brief explanation, it looks like the Satan in my notation is "id", and God is "super-ego".)
Everything comes out of VOID. The existence of positive side (God) depends on the existence of negative side (Satan). Denying or suppressing any side is at danger. If Satan becomes dominant, then one is possessed (as what the book says). However, I wonder what will happen if Satan is completely eliminated? For a single person, one could become insane, or become a Saint. But if it happens to the entire race of people, then it probably means that the race will disappear soon.
However, previously I said that "the God side of self" is the master. But the previous paragraph, it should be risky to let any side to dominate. I can't explain this conflict.

People of the Lie, by M. Scott Peck
The book talks about what's evil, and possible ways to confront evil people. Real cases are examined. It is an eye opener. My previous manager in LA was pathetic, and his behavior and words were very confusing. From this book, I got some ideas what he was, and why he acted in that way.
At first, I thought everyone should read this book, not only to protect yourself, but to protect the ones you love. After finishing the book, I changed my mind. If you are happy, if your loved ones are happy, no need to read the book - because it kindly of awakes "devil", which could cause risk. Otherwise, pls read it. We do not want to be hurt by evil people; at the same time, each person has its "evil" personality and we do not want to hurt the one we love.
At this moment, I think God and Satan are two human natures inside everyone. The notation of God and Satan were created because they exist in our nature. For Saints, their God nature is visible and Satan is controlled. For the evil people, the opposite. For regular people, it is more like a balance.

Runaway Horses, by Yukio Mishima
This is the second book of Yukio Mishima's tetralogy The Sea of Fertility. Unlike the first book, Spring Snow, which is flow of stories and imagines of beauty, this book becomes a tool to deliver Mishima's idea, and his numerous comments are spread everywhere. Well, I may understand his main idea, but I was lost for most of his comments, which is foreign and even sound insane to me. (Yes, this insanity first shocked me, but then I became to understand why Japan as a country behaved in that way.) Overall, not a bad book. Will probably read the remaining two books later.
Translated by Michael Gallagher. Started with the hardcover book, but finished with the Vintage International paperback edition. ISBN 0679722408.
