Runaway Horses, by Yukio Mishima

This is the second book of Yukio Mishima's tetralogy The Sea of Fertility. Unlike the first book, Spring Snow, which is flow of stories and imagines of beauty, this book becomes a tool to deliver Mishima's idea, and his numerous comments are spread everywhere. Well, I may understand his main idea, but I was lost for most of his comments, which is foreign and even sound insane to me. (Yes, this insanity first shocked me, but then I became to understand why Japan as a country behaved in that way.)

Overall, not a bad book. Will probably read the remaining two books later.

Translated by Michael Gallagher. Started with the hardcover book, but finished with the Vintage International paperback edition. ISBN 0679722408.

Eugenie Grandet, by Honore de Balzac

Eugenie's father, and the people around her, their greedy is sharply portrayed. However, Eugenie is too innocent to be true.

Very old style writing. Balzac's dry and long comments are inserted everywhere.
